BUSINESS METHOD PATENTS – Readily available yet still controversial

“A business system is a method of operating any aspect of an economic enterprise.”

“The rapid development of information technology has created new opportunities for innovation in the business world and has led to an increase in the numbers of patents sought in this area.”

It is now possible to register business method patents in Australia, the United States and European Union Patent Offices. This development in patent law has brought much discussion, attracted some degree of controversy, and has resulted in changes to the law initiated both by the courts and legislature.
